Concealed Weapon Permits

I am pleased that one of the first questions I am always asked when people find out I am running for Sheriff is about gun control and concealed weapons permits. I have always been a firm believer in the right to bear arms. As a military leader, I have been quite clear about my concerns and my thoughts regarding this issue, however, as it is one of the most asked questions I field, I have decided to add this topic to my website. more...

Narcotics Enforcement

There is little doubt that illegal narcotics have an enormous impact on the safety of Black Hawk County. Estimates indicate that over 80% of all crime committed in Iowa is attributable to illegal narcotics. Whether it be burglaries and thefts committed to get money for drugs, or assaults and domestic violence because of being high on drugs, we can do a better job at detecting, deterring and interdicting illegal drugs. more...

Community Outreach

One of the issues that I feel is the most important functions of a Sheriff, is connectivity to the citizens of the county.  I have enjoyed years of outreach and public education through my role as Community Services Coordinator, and I intend to do even more to reach out and network with taxpayers and citizens through several new, inventive measures. more...

Jail Administration

In the early 1990's the taxpayers of Black Hawk County voted to build and staff one of the largest jails in the state of Iowa.  This vote was not without it's opposition, but in 1995, the Sheriff's Office opened the new jail with sworn law enforcement officers at the helm.  Today, our jail demonstrates one of the largest inmate populations in the state, and many demands and liabilities as a result.  With such a resource and asset within the Sheriff's Office, it is frustrating to see many of our greatest advantages wasted due to poor or misdirected management. more...

Inmate Workers

Closely tied to the issue of improving our jail management and administration, is the concept of utilizing the inmates sentenced to serve time in the Black Hawk County Jail.  Sheriff Kubik initiated an inmate work crew several years ago, that faded out due to lack of nurturing and attention.  I propose a reinvigoration and re-inventing of this program to address ways to improve county services and access. more...

Selfless Service

Having 19 years of military service experience, 14 years at the Sheriff's Office, and recognizing the leadership values instilled in a soldier; selfless service is the most important focus of my campaign. From my duties as SWAT team leader, to my wife and family, I hope to bring a higher level of commitment and dedication to all the citizens of Black Hawk County for many years to come.
